How PawProof works
Most pet pages that rank well are written to move a product, not to answer the question you typed at 11pm with a worried dog at your feet. PawProof is built the other way around. Every guide starts from a real decision, names its sources, and shows the numbers so you can check them. Health and safety pages lean on the ASPCA, AVMA, AAHA, and AKC, and they always send you back to the veterinarian who can actually examine your animal.
Each guide carries a named writer who owns that beat: Linda Case, MS, a canine and feline nutritionist and author of Dog Food Logic, on food and nutrition; Kayla Fratt, CDBC, a certified dog behavior consultant, on toys, crates, and gear; and Dr. Justine Lee, DACVECC, DABT, a board-certified emergency and toxicology veterinarian, on health, safety, and first aid. Read more about our standards on the about page.
New dog and not sure on food? Begin with the food guide, then learn the 10% treat rule. Setting up a home? Size a crate and stock a few tough toys. Still deciding on a pet at all? Read the honest cat or dog comparison first. And keep the first aid basics somewhere you can find them fast.
